Responsibilities

Ms. Machin-Scarpaci provides support for the international study abroad programs and academic assessment. She is the liaison between the faculty and students in the administration of Pamplin’s extensive international programs and coordinates study abroad fairs and informational sessions. She meets individually with students to find a program that meets their interest and applies to their course of study.

Biography

Ms. Machin Scarpaci has traveled extensively. She hails from Cuba, has lived in four different countries, and has visited over 20 countries in three continents. In 1993 she went on a voyage around the world on a ship with over 400 undergraduate students. The voyage took 100 days. She has gone on safaris in Africa, climbed the trails of Machu Picchu, Peru, experienced the markets in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and India, the serenity of temples in Japan, ski in Chile and Argentina, samba her way through Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, shopped till she dropped at the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul and enjoyed the splendor of Versailles Palace in France. Blacksburg has been home to her and her family for 17 years. She has two children. She enjoys traveling, photography, reading and spending time with her family.
